STATUE DEPICTING MAN HOLDING BOW JHARKHAND, INDIA - OCT. 15, 2025: A nationwide debate over environmental concerns has erupted as India’s state-owned Hindustan Copper Limited plans to reopen the Moubhandar copper smelting plant in Ghatshila, Jharkhand. The facility, closed since 2019, is set to resume operations to meet rising copper demand driven by the electric vehicle and renewable energy industries. Local residents fear a return of air and water pollution, while environmentalists have raised alarms over potential risks to the nearby Subarnarekha River.
