Madagascar Military Unit Seizes Power Amid Youth-Led Protests. Madagascar’s most powerful military unit says it has seized power from President Andry Rajoelina after weeks of youth-led protests. On Tuesday, outside the presidential palace, CAPSAT chief Colonel Michael Randrianirina announced that the military will form a transitional government, suspend democratic institutions, and hold elections within two years. He said Gen Z protesters, who led the movement, will have a voice in shaping the country's future. Thousands celebrated in the capital, as the constitutional court named Randrianirina the new leader. But Rajoelina's office called it an "attempted coup," insisting he remains in power. His exact location is unknown. The unrest began over power and water shortages but grew into anger over unemployment, corruption, and soaring living costs. At least 22 people have died in clashes. The African Union has condemned any unconstitutional power grab, while the US has urged calm. [Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT]
