War-worn families waiting for relief as aid trickles into Gaza
StorylineЖ Gaza's humanitarian situation remains dire with relief supplies still inaccessible to many displaced families although some aid has entered the enclave following a Hamas-Israel ceasefire now in its sixth day on Wednesday. Since the truce took effect last Friday, aid trucks have begun entering Gaza, carrying food, fuel, and cooking gas that were scarce during the war. But the flow remains slow, with daily volumes well below the levels announced in the agreement. Efforts to support Palestinians continue after two years of war that exhausted both people and resources. The Egyptian Relief Committee is among the groups facilitating deliveries into Gaza and supervising early phases of emergency distribution to displaced families. "The number of trucks entering is not enough and people's needs are immense, especially with negative side effects from the war. We receive daily convoys from the Egyptian side and are almost finished with the first phase [of urgent aid distribution]," said Mohamed Mansour, spokesperson for the Egyptian Relief Committee in Gaza. The United Nations is calling for more aid trucks to enter Gaza and for UN involvement in managing and distributing supplies to ensure fair access for all families. UN officials here say it is still too early to speak about the recovery in a community deeply exhausted by conflict and deprivation. Many displaced Palestinians have returned to ruins, with little to survive on as winter nears, prompting humanitarian needs to grow. "Of course, we will be looking to feed 2.1 million people in Gaza. We will target 500,000 people with nutrition assistance and treatments. Of course, there's going to be a shelter scale-up. There's already a shelter scale-up and preparing for the winter months," said Olga Cherevko, spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Gaza. In displacement camps across Gaza, families have continued to face harsh conditions with limited access to food. Inside her tent, displaced mother Sabah Odeh describes how difficult it is to feed her children despite reports of increased aid. "Even though aid is coming in, I still can't feed my children regularly because nothing has reached us. I try to divide the small portions to feed the kids," said Odeh. Nearly all in Gaza face severe food shortages, with humanitarian groups saying half a million people are at risk of imminent starvation. For Palestinians, a long struggle lies ahead to overcome hunger, one tied to political progress and a steady, reliable flow of humanitarian aid. Even with the ceasefire still holding, Gaza's food situation remains precarious. The amount of aid coming in is still far from enough to meet people's needs, especially after months of hunger and deprivation. Shotlist: Gaza Strip - Oct 15, 2025: 1.
