Shelves collapsed as a magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck Indonesia today.

Footage shows boxes and groceries strewn on the floor after the tremor shook a supermarket in the remote Papua region.

The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake, earlier reported at a 6.7 magnitude, struck 200 kilometres (124 miles) off Jayapura City at a depth of 35 kilometres (21.5 miles) at around 2:48 pm local time.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there were no tsunami warnings raised after the quake.

Indonesia lies within the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes happen.
