UKRAINIAN AND US FLAGS WAVING WASHINGTON, US - OCT. 16 - RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “UKRAINIAN PRESIDENCY” HANDOUT—EDITORIAL USE ONLY— Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington, on Thursday, Oct. 16, for a series of meetings with representatives of US defense and energy companies to strengthen cooperation amid Russia’s ongoing attacks.

In a statement shared on his social media account, Zelenskyy said he met with representatives of major defense firms producing advanced weapons capable of enhancing Ukraine’s protection and discussed additional deliveries of air defense systems.

He added that a meeting with US President Donald Trump is scheduled for Friday.

Earlier this month, Trump, who expressed “disappointment” with Russian President Vladimir Putin for not ending the over three-and-a-half-year war, said he was close to deciding whether to send long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv, which Zelenskyy said he requested from the US president in September.

Putin has voiced concern over the US sending Ukraine Tomahawks, arguing that this would “destroy” US-Russian ties and lead to a “completely new, qualitatively new stage of escalation.”
