This is the dramatic moment a magnitude 6.5 earthquake shook homes as a youngster relaxed playing on his phone in Indonesia.

CCTV footage shows a group of men chatting outside their house when the tremor struck in the remote Papua region yesterday, sending them fleeing in panic.

The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake, earlier reported at a 6.7 magnitude, struck 200 kilometres (124 miles) off Jayapura City at a depth of 35 kilometres (21.5 miles) at around 2:48 pm local time.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there were no tsunami warnings raised after the quake.

Indonesia lies within the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes happen.
