Passengers fled from a train in Indonesia when smoke filled one of the carriages earlier today.

Footage captured by Annisa Amalia shows dozens of commuters standing outside the locomotive as smoke billowed at Tanjung Barat Station in South Jakarta around 7:36 am local time.

Annisa said: 'Everyone panicked because, without knowing what happened, people started running out of the train.'

KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan confirmed the smoke appeared in KRL train number 1207.

Leza added: 'The smoke came from the eighth carriage from the rear. The train underwent an initial inspection at Tanjung Barat Station. Once deemed safe, it was driven to Pasar Minggu Station for further checks.

'We continue to prioritise the safety and security of all passengers.'

No injuries were reported, and the incident caused a 12-minute delay to the service.
