SANAA, YEMEN - OCT. 17: Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Friday, Oct. 17, to mark the first anniversary of former Hamas Political Bureau Chief Yahya Sinwar’s death and to show support for the Palestinian cause.
The rally, held at Sebin Square under the theme “Two Years of Sacrifice and Loyalty to the Blood of Martyrs,” featured demonstrators waving Palestinian and Yemeni flags and carrying portraits of Sinwar while chanting slogans against Israel and the United States.
Protesters voiced continued support for Palestinian resistance, chanting “Gamari and Sinwar, Free Commanders of the Flood” and “Salute to Al-Qassam Brigades on Sinwar’s Anniversary.”
The demonstration followed a statement by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement announcing that Chief of Staff Mohammed Abdulkarim al-Gamari had been killed in earlier U.S. and Israeli strikes on Yemen.
Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said the strike that fatally wounded Gamari was carried out by Israeli forces in August.
Hamas leader Sinwar was killed on Oct. 16, 2024, during clashes with Israeli troops in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip.
