Tanzania: China hopes Tanzania's new geopark museum can promote research, tourism: ambassador
Storyline: China hopes the newly unveiled Ngorongoro-Lengai Geopark museum will provide a platform for research, education, and cultural exchange, while promoting sustainable tourism, said Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian in Arusha on Thursday. The Ngorongoro-Lengai Geopark complex, a modern facility built with Chinese assistance to promote geological research, heritage conservation, and tourism development was officially inaugurated in Arusha, Tanzania on Thursday. Chen said the geopark, a 32-billion-Tanzanian-shilling (about 13 million U.S. dollars) project, serves as a crucial component in the partnership between China and Tanzania. "The China-Aid Ngorongoro-Lengai Geopark Project is China's first overseas culture and tourism aid project, signed under the witness of the two heads of state in Beijing. The project enhances the conservation and management of the Ngorongoro-Lengai Geopark, boosts Tanzania's geological research and tourism industry, provides a new platform and opportunities for further exchange and collaboration in the field of tourism and culture," she said. The geopark's museum was unveiled by Tanzanian Vice President Philip Mpango. Speaking on behalf of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Mpango expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for its continued support in developing Tanzania's infrastructure, including the new museum located within the UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The new complex features modern exhibition halls, a theater, a cultural square, and scientific learning spaces. Tanzania expects the museum will increase both domestic and international tourist numbers, serve as a hub for national and international research, provide geological and historical education.
