Storyline: Egyptians are calling for the reopening of the Rafah border crossing, which remains sealed one week into the ceasefire in Gaza, so that large-scale aid deliveries can reach the population in the enclave and meet urgent humanitarian needs. As part of the first phase of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas that took effect last Friday, Israel was scheduled to reopen the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt on Wednesday. However, on Tuesday, Israel announced that it would suspend the reopening due to Hamas' failure to timely return all the bodies of Israeli hostages. Speaking during a meeting in Italy on Thursday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the Rafah crossing would probably reopen on Sunday. On the same day, the Israeli Defense Ministry's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories issued a statement, saying that Israel was working with Egypt to facilitate the reopening of the Rafah crossing, and the specific date for the reopening would be announced once both sides complete the necessary preparations. At the Egyptian Red Crescent Society in Cairo, which oversees the coordination and deployment of aid to Gaza, vehicles loaded with humanitarian supplies and mobile clinics are waiting to enter the enclave as soon as the border crossing reopens. Many Egyptians in Cairo expressed solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, saying reopening this crucial aid crossing could save many lives. "Actually, this is the wish of all Egyptians for the past two years, for the borders to be opened. We wish that aid will enter Gaza and we wish for this humanitarian crisis to end," said Jada, a resident in Cairo. Some others expressed their determination to assist Palestinians, whom they described as their brothers and sisters. "They are our brothers and sisters. We can't leave them alone," said Rola, another resident. They are our brothers, or like our family. And we will do all we can to help them," said resident Maryam.
