Qatar: Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to immediate ceasefire in Doha talks
Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire during a round of negotiations in the Qatari capital of Doha, after a week of fierce border clashes, according to a statement by Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday. The talks, mediated by Qatar and Türkiye, led Pakistan and Afghanistan to reach an agreement on ending hostilities and establishing mechanisms aimed at fostering lasting peace and stability between the two neighboring countries, the statement said. The statement added that the two parties also agreed to hold follow-up meetings in the coming days to ensure the durability of the ceasefire and verify its implementation in a reliable and sustainable manner, contributing to achieving security and stability in both countries. The Qatari Foreign Ministry expressed hope that this breakthrough would help ease border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and lay a solid foundation for sustainable peace in the region. Fierce clashes broke out between Pakistan and Afghanistan along their 2,600-kilometer frontier last week, after Pakistan demanded that Afghanistan rein in militants it accused of launching attacks from across the border. Afghanistan denied the allegations and accused Pakistan of spreading misinformation and sheltering Islamic State-linked militants to undermine its stability and sovereignty. The clashes, which reportedly killed dozens and wounded hundreds, marked the worst violence between the two countries since 2021. Shotlist: Qatar - Oct 19, 2025: 1.
