This is the shocking moment a ride collapsed, injuring at least 15 fairground visitors in Indonesia.

The locals were riding the 'Rainbow Slide' attraction at the Air Upas night market in Ketapang Regency when part of the tracks buckled on Saturday evening.

Footage shows the ride, with dozens of people still onboard, plunging 8ft to the ground as its metal supports gave way, dragging down a platform.

Terrified onlookers screamed as a man fell and was crushed by debris.

Police said at least 15 people were injured, including fairground staff and a child who suffered serious head injuries. They were taken to the Air Upas Health Centre for treatment before being transferred to a hospital in Ketapang City.

Village council leader Agus Purwanto said: 'This rainbow slide just came into operation that night. At around 8pm, it suddenly collapsed from the centre. We have asked that all medical expenses be borne by the organisers. This is their moral and legal responsibility.'

Authorities said the fairground ride has since been closed amid investigations.

Niptah Alimudin, spokesman for the Ketapang Police, said: 'The steps we're taking include securing and processing the crime scene, and calling in the person in charge of the ride, along with witnesses for questioning. For now, the ride is temporarily closed while we investigate the cause of the collapse and assess the damage to the facilities.'

The incident occurred just days after another fairground collapse in Indonesia.

The 'water waves' attraction collapsed at a village festival in Central Java, Indonesia, injuring ten people on October 14. Authorities said the accident was caused by a broken bolt that led to the support pillar's failure, though all victims suffered only minor injuries.

Fairground ride accidents frequently occur in Indonesia amid lax safety standards and minimal oversight. Many attractions are hastily assembled and manually operated at local festivals, often without proper inspections or maintenance.
