Airport inferno could cost Bangladesh $1bn in damages. Experts warn a massive fire at Bangladesh’s main airport could cost more than one billion dollars in damages. The blaze tore through the cargo logistics section of Dhaka’s airport on Saturday, destroying clothes and raw materials vital to the country’s garment exports. Bangladesh is the world’s second-largest exporter of clothing after China, supplying global retailers such as H&M and Walmart. The fire, which took 27 hours to extinguish, forced flights and operations to be temporarily suspended. Industry groups say the damage could put some businesses at risk, with crucial fabrics, pharmaceuticals and chemicals lost in the blaze. The garment sector generates about forty billion dollars a year — more than ten percent of Bangladesh’s economy. Around thirty-five people were injured battling the fire, as investigators continue to determine its cause. Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
