The health authorities in Gaza said on Monday that Israeli military strikes have killed 80 and wounded 303 others since a ceasefire agreement took effect in the enclave on October 10. In the past 24 hours alone, Israeli operations resulted in 57 deaths and 158 injuries, the health authorities added in their statement. The latest deaths and injuries bring the death toll in Gaza, since the outbreak of the Israel-Palestinian conflict on October 7, 2023, to 68,216, with 170,361 people injured, according to the authorities. The Israeli army said in a statement that two of its soldiers were killed in a Hamas attack on Sunday. During the incident, Hamas fired an anti-tank missile and opened fire on Israeli troops dismantling infrastructure in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In response to the reported attack, the IDF launched a series of air and artillery strikes on Gaza. The ceasefire agreement, brokered with Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish mediation under U.S. sponsorship, has been in place since Oct 10. Under the agreement, both parties committed to a cessation of hostilities, the exchange of prisoners and detainees, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from certain areas of the enclave, and the entry of humanitarian aid and fuel to allow medical and relief teams to resume their operations.
