Los Angeles, United States - October 21, 2025 10/20/2025 09:00 pm GMT-0700 MOUNT WASHINGTON, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A suspected grand theft auto suspect was fatally struck by a passing vehicle Monday night after exiting a cargo van on the 110 Freeway in Mount Washington, prompting authorities to shut down all lanes in both directions. The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m., when the driver slowed the van in a northbound lane near East Avenue 43 and climbed out through the driver’s side window, according to video from a news helicopters overhead. The suspect climbed onto the center median, then rolled into the southbound side of the freeway and was immediately struck by a vehicle. Police and firefighters responded quickly and paramedics were seen performing CPR on the suspect, who was lying in lanes. The individual died at the scene. Details about when and where the van was stolen were not immediately available. Los Angeles police officers initiated the chase and requested the California Highway Patrol to take over after the van entered the 110 Freeway. It was unclear Monday night whether one or both agencies were actively pursuing the vehicle when the suspect exited.
