Phoenix, United States - October 20, 2025 10/20/2025 02:10 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to preliminary info gathered at the scene, Scottsdale police officers were in pursuit of a white Chevy Malibu believed to be related to a shots fired incident in their city. Scottsdale police terminated the pursuit as it approached the border of Tempe and Phoenix on westbound Red Mountain Loop 202. A short time later, troopers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety spotted the Malibu traveling westbound on I-10 near 7th Street at a high rate of speed. Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle but the suspect refused to yield. Troopers initiated a pursuit as the suspect transitioned onto the northbound I-17 from the westbound I-10. The Phoenix Police Department's helicopter responded to assist and quickly located the Malibu traveling north at a high rate of speed on I-17. Troopers disengaged from the pursuit and pulled back from the vehicle, allowing the helicopter to track the suspect from above while ground units followed at a safe distance. The helicopter tracked the vehicle north on the I-17 to Dunlap Avenue where the vehicle then exited the mainline. The Malibu traveled east on Dunlap before making a northbound turn on 25th Avenue. The Malibu then entered a SpringHill Suites by Marriott property near 25th Avenue and Mountain View Road. DPS ground units quickly converged on the Malibu in the Marriott parking lot and established a high-risk traffic stop. A total of four occupants, including the driver, were ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint and taken into custody. Troopers recovered at least one handgun from the vehicle. Scottsdale police officers responded to the location of the pursuit termination to assume the roll of the lead investigative agency.
