This adorable video shows a dad teaching his infant son British Sign Language (BSL) through nursery rhymes so he can communicate with his deaf mother and sister.

Huxley Pitcher, 10 months, was born hearing but his mum Collett Lethbridge, 36, and sister Loulia, 11, are both deaf and communicate using BSL.

Although Huxley is hearing, his parents are teaching him to sign from an early age so he can fully communicate with his family.

Dad Mathew Pitcher, 37, who learnt BSL through his work with autistic adults, feels strongly that his son should grow up fluent in sign language as a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults).

A sweet video shows Mathew signing a nursery rhyme to Huxley in BSL to help him connect with his mother and sister.

Mathew, who works autistic adults, said: "It's vital for our son to learn BSL so he can communicate with his family and friends."

"He already interacts with other deaf and CODA babies."

Huxley is only 10 months old, but he already signs words like 'mum', 'dog', 'more', 'star' and and his sister's name.

Mathew added: "Watching him communicate is heartwarming and shows how naturally he's connecting with his Deaf family."

"When Huxley first signed ‘Mummy' and reached for his mum - that moment confirmed our family's connection through sign language."

"As Huxley grows, BSL will help him build a strong bond with his mum and sister. "

"Many CODAs become interpreters. "

"He's already showing that same connection."

The family of four splits their time between St Albans in Hertfordshire and Kingsteighton in Devon, where Loulia attends Heathlands School, a school where everyone uses BSL.

Mathew said: "Being Deaf presents barriers - from medical appointments without interpreters to social misunderstandings. "

"Our daughter struggled in mainstream school but now thrives at Heathlands, where everyone uses BSL."

Although Mathew admits deafness can be isolating, he says learning BSL has made their family bond stronger.

He said: "BSL has made our bond even stronger. Family meals are all about signing and conversation - no screens, just connection. "

"Deafness can be isolating, but learning BSL changes everything. "

"Seek support early, embrace the Deaf community, and never be ashamed. "

"BSL is a beautiful language."
