China: Vibrant industries power China's rural revitalization
Storyline: Vibrant industries power China's rural revitalization [Voice_over] In China, rural revitalization remains high on the national agenda, with agriculture, geographical indicators and tourism amongst the areas targeted for development. The village of Nangou in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, for example, is using environmentally friendly cultivation techniques on its apple orchards, and is extending its apple industrial chain, all of which are improving salaries for residents. In northeast China’s Wuchang City, meanwhile, about 867 hectares of paddy rice crops are entering the annual harvest season. Rice grown in Wuchang is recognized as a GI, a geographical indicator, which has been driving growth, locals report. [Sound_bite] Wang Wenxiao, villager: "The paddy rice has grown even better this year and I am expected to earn over 4,200 U.S. dollars more than last year. I've always wanted to buy a new car, and I can finally make it by the end of this year. I'm very happy about it." [Voice_over] Rural tourism is another focal point for China’s revitalization efforts. Official data shows that in the first six-months of the year, revenue for national rural tourism rose 35 percent compared to last year. One popular region is northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, where tourists have been visiting in large numbers during public holidays. Official data shows that in the first six months of the year, more than 130 million people visited Xinjiang. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
