They told us our situation would be solved, but nothing has happened. We have no homes to return to. Please, have mercy on us. We have no strength left within us. You can see it with your own eyes, we have no food, no water, nothing at all. We are just sitting here with our tents, as you can see for yourself. Our situation keeps getting worse. What more can we do? My home used to be here, and now it’s nothing but sand and rubble. We have nothing left, no shelter, no belongings, no money, nothing at all."GAZA, PALESTINE - OCT. 20, 2025: Palestinians returning to their neighborhoods following the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas found their homes leveled by Israeli attacks, forcing many to take shelter in cemeteries. Families displaced by Israeli attacks said they have nowhere else to go. With the winter season approaching and rainfall already beginning, makeshift tents offer little protection against the elements. Unable to find alternative refuge due to overcrowding in Khan Younis, several families pitched their tents among graves, trying to survive under dire conditions. Residents said they suffer daily from insects and scorpions infesting the area, calling for urgent humanitarian assistance. Despite the dire situation, residents hold onto hope of returning to their homes, but for now, survival remains their main concern. A ceasefire deal took effect on Oct. 10 in the Gaza Strip, based on a phased plan presented by US President Donald Trump. Phase one included the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas. Since October 2023, the Israeli genocidal war has killed over 68,200 people and injured more than 170,200, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
