A hiker calmly removed a blood-sucking leech that had crawled under her eyelid while trekking during rain.

Marimar was climbing Mount Malinao with friends when she felt something moving in her left eye in Bicol, the Philippines.

Footage shows her carefully using her phone's camera as a mirror while trying to pull out the tiny parasitic worm buried under her eyelid.

Fellow climber Jervinson Vasquez said the group had not expected the trip to be so dangerous, as Typhoon Fengshen was approaching the area.

He said: 'Things did not go as smoothly as planned because we learned that the typhoon was going to make landfall there.

'Still, because we were determined to reach the summit, we decided to continue our climb despite the storm. The ascent went smoothly, but something unexpected happened on our way down to Camp 1.

'One of our female companions suddenly felt something in her eye, and upon checking, she discovered a leech attached to it.

'She quickly removed it before it could cling too deeply and was fine afterwards.

Marimar successfully removed the leech and was unharmed after the DIY operation.

Blood leeches, known locally as limatik, are common in rainforests and mountain areas in the Philippines.
