China: Airbus opens second assembly line in China
Storyline: Airbus on Wednesday opened a second assembly line in China, doubling manufacturing capacity for its best-selling A320 family aircraft in the country. The second Chinese line in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin is set to be fully operational in early 2026, and demonstrates Airbus' confidence in the country's thriving civil aviation market, resilient supply chain and favorable business climate. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said the second Tianjin production line can reinforce the presence of the European aircraft manufacture in the Chinese market and would provide Airbus with the necessary flexibility and capacity to reach the target of 75 A320-family aircraft per month by 2027. The new assembly line adopts Airbus latest manufacturing technologies and technique, and will manufacture aircraft to the company's highest global standards. In addition, the facility takes advantage of electricity from renewable sources, reclaimed water and geothermal energy to support the company's sustainability roadmap, reducing its environmental footprint. With the opening of the new line in Tianjin, Airbus now has 10 final assembly lines of A320 family aircraft, with four in Hamburg, Germany; two in Toulouse, France; two in Mobile, Alabama, the United States; and two in Tianjin. Inaugurated in 2008, the first A320 final assembly line in Tianjin was the first Airbus production line for commercial aircraft outside of Europe. It is responsible for assembling three models in the A320 family -- the A319, A320, and A321. To date, it has assembled and delivered over 780 A320 family aircraft.
