A gas explosion injured one person as it ripped through a market in Thailand.

The blast reportedly erupted from a noodle restaurant at the Picnic Park Phraeksa Market in Samut Prakan, on the outskirts of Bangkok.

A worker had lit the stove to cook food but the fire rapidly spread through the shop's kitchen on October 20.

Footage shows roaring flames engulfing the market as smoke billows toward the nearby road.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and spent 30 minutes bringing the inferno under control.

A Bang Pu Police Station spokesman said: 'A preliminary investigation revealed that six stalls were damaged, and a female employee of the shop suffered burns to her arm. Rescue workers provided assistance before transporting her to a nearby hospital.'

The shop owner, Pha, 54, said a tall flame suddenly shot out of the stove after it was turned on.

She added that the exact cause was still unclear.

Authorities said investigations and damage assessments were ongoing.
