BOSRA, SYRIA - OCT. 21, 2025: Situated in southern Syria, the ancient city of Bosra holds a special place in Islamic history as the site where Prophet Muhammad is believed to have met Monk Bahira.

Biographical accounts say the Prophet visited Bosra twice before his prophethood. During his first journey as a child with his uncle Abu Talib, the monk Bahira is said to have foretold Muhammad’s future as a prophet. On his second visit at age 25, another monk, Nastura, reportedly recognized his prophetic sign when he rested beneath a tree.

Located near the Jordanian border, about 40 kilometers from Daraa and 140 kilometers from Damascus, Bosra once stood at the crossroads of trade routes linking Mecca to the Mediterranean. Today, remnants of Bahira’s monastery still stand, preserving the city’s deep spiritual and historical legacy.
