Storyline: Chinese and Malaysian naval forces conducted multi-subject joint exercises from Sunday to Tuesday in waters near Port Klang, Malaysia, aiming to strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation and test operational coordination. The exercises are part of the "Peace and Friendship 2025" joint military drill between China and Malaysia that started on Oct 15, including live training in search and rescue, escort missions, and helicopter-based resupply operations. During the exercise, participating vessels from both sides responded to a simulated call for help from a nearby merchant ship reporting a crew member overboard. Upon receiving the call, search and rescue operation was carried out immediately, and shipborne helicopters were dispatched carrying rescuers to the site. "The joint search and rescue operation faced challenges such as unfamiliar waters, complex sea conditions, and difficulty in locating the target and carrying out rescue. Our crew strictly followed resource management protocols and successfully and swiftly rescued the individual," said Zhao Yunfeng, a Chinese helicopter pilot. The two sides also carried out a communications drill, where the fleet formed a double-column formation led by China's amphibious landing ship Jinggangshan. Both sides exchanged semaphore and light signals, demonstrating smooth and efficient communication. "In this joint exercise, Chinese and Malaysian fleet carried out multi-subject live drills, such as search and rescue, escort missions, and vertical replenishment by shipborne helicopters. The exercises test our previous trainings and enhance our ability to jointly safeguard maritime security," said Wang Mang, a Chinese naval officer. Shotlist: At Sea - Oct 19-21, 2025: 1.
