US: Thermal Imaging Aids Firefighters In Early Morning Mobile Home Blaze
San Bernardino, United States - October 21, 2025 County Fire crews contained a fire at a double-wide mobile home early Tuesday morning, preventing the flames from spreading to the rest of the home or nearby residences. The blaze broke out around 3:02 a.m. on the 2600 block of Mill Street. With County Fire Station 229 nearby, firefighters arrived as the fire’s intensity was increasing and knocked down most of the flames within approximately five minutes. One adult female was treated and transported by ambulance to a local hospital after smoke exposure. Two adults were displaced, along with two cats, all of whom escaped without injury. Video from inside the home shows a firefighter using a personal thermal imaging camera attached to his breathing apparatus, which helped “see” through smoke to direct hose streams effectively. Such devices are now standard issue for County Fire crews. Additional footage highlights the use of hydraulic ventilation, where a wide stream of water is directed out a window to draw smoke from the structure, improving visibility for firefighters inside. Four engines, one truck company, a battalion chief, and a fire investigator responded to the call. No firefighter injuries were reported. Working smoke detectors in the home helped occupants evacuate quickly. County Fire expressed thanks to the Rialto Fire Department for their assistance on the scene.
