Breathtaking footage captured record-breaking kite surfing jump from world champion
Video footage captures a kite surfer breaking the world-record for the highest loop jump.
Breathtaking video shows Lorenzo Casati, 19,
performing the stunt at a height 32.3 metres above the sea.
Lorenzo, a full-time kite surfer, was training off the coast of Tarifa, Spain when he noticed the weather conditions were perfect for high jumps.
Winds were 50 knots strong when Lorenzo attempted the jump, performing a kite loop, where the rider loops the kite in a full circle while airborne.
As soon as Lorenzo landed, he looked at the Surfr app on his Apple Watch which measured the height and was stunned.
Lorenzo, from Lake Como, Italy, said: "It was such an unreal experience."
"I knew when I got out there with the weather conditions I was going to be making some big jumps."
"But to be able to break a record like that was a real highlight."
Lorenzo began kite surfing when he was 11 years old after his family moved from Lake Como, Italy to the Canary Islands, Spain.
The environment in the Canary Islands was much better suited to kite surfing, so Lorenzo's father, Renato Casati, a former kite surfer, taught him the sport.
After finishing school, Lorenzo took a year out to see where kitesurfing could take him, in which time he won his first major international competition.
Lorenzo said: "It was great to be taught by my dad."
"Kitesurfing is quite a new sport and only started being recognised in the 90s, so it's not as accessible as other sports."
"Having someone experiences to show me the ropes was vital."
"And now my ambition is to keep training and competing as a full-time kite surfer."
"In March this year I won the New Big Air World Championship in France and I also won the Red Bull Megaloop competition, which took place in September in the Netherlands."
"Now I'm in training for the Red Bull King of the Air competition in South Africa, which will happen over the next few months."
"It's the most iconic event in kiteboarding, known as the sport's most extreme challenge. "
"I was the youngest winner in history when I claimed the title at just 16 years old. "
"This year will be even more special, as for the first time ever two brothers (me and my younger brother Leonardo) will compete together on the same stage."
