China: China's machinery industry posts robust growth in Jan-Sept
Storyline: China's machinery industry recorded strong growth in the first three quarters of this year, providing solid support for the country's steady industrial performance, according to data released by the China Machinery Industry Federation on Friday. The added value of machinery manufacturers above the designated size (those with an annual main business turnover of at least 20 million yuan) rose 8.7 percent year on year during the Jan-Sept period, 2.5 percentage points higher than the national industrial average, the federation said. By industry, the automobile and electrical machinery sectors led the expansion, with growth rates of 11.2 percent and 11.1 percent respectively, each contributing 11 percent to overall industrial growth of enterprises above the designated size. On the product side, 68 percent of key monitored products posted year-on-year output increases. Production of automobiles, solar cells, and excavators all grew by more than 10 percent. An official with the federation said that with quickened integration of AI and industry, the smart and digital transformation of manufacturing is accelerating, driving rapid progress in the smart equipment sector. During the first three quarters, the output of the intelligent equipment manufacturing industry grew by 12.2 percent year on year. Production of numerically controlled machine tools, industrial control systems, and 3D printing equipment all achieved double-digit growth. Notably, output of industrial robots reached 595,000 units in the first nine months, already surpassing last year's total. The deeper integration between innovation and industry chains, along with the steady shift from traditional to new growth drivers, is also fostering new quality productive forces in the machinery sector and marking solid progress in industrial upgrading.
