US Marines launch amphibious assault drills in Puerto Rico
US Marines launched amphibious assault drills in Puerto Rico as part of a training deployment in the Caribbean Sea.
The fighting force, along with sailors from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), carried out the exercise while deployed aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7).
Officials said the drills took place on September 5, demonstrating the readiness and capability of US forces operating in the region.
The operations form part of a broader deployment in support of the US Southern Command mission, Department of Defence–directed activities, and priorities set by the President.
