Woman swears off fillers after injection leaves her with swollen, bruised lip
A young woman has sworn off lip fillers after her first injection left her with a swollen and bruised lip for two weeks.
Faye Gould, 27, went to get her first-ever lip filler injection after she felt pressure seeing increasing numbers of young people using it on social media.
"The increase of fillers on social media and celebrities promoting it made me want to try it," she said."
Faye, who was 22 at the time, went to get 0.5 ml of lip filler.
But as soon as she left her appointment, she began noticing swelling.
Faye's bottom lip doubled in size and began bruising.
The swelling and bruising eventually went down but Faye has now sworn never to do it again.
Faye, from Chelmsford, Essex, said: "I wouldn't choose to do it again, now that I'm older I look back and regret why I followed trends."
Faye had never had lip filler before and didn't know what to expect.
It was only after she got into her car that she realised something was wrong.
She said: "I only wanted 0.5 ml as I didn't want a drastic difference or ‘duck lips'."
"I was pretty happy with the results to start but the swelling soon started five minutes after the appointment when I got into my car."
Faye continued with her plans, including a lunch booked with her friends, but throughout the lunch her lip was getting darker with bruising and the swelling continued.
She messaged the practitioner, who advised her to keep an eye on it and go to the doctor if it became painful.
Faye said: "As awful as the pictures look I was in no pain at all and carried on checking the health of my lip by holding my lip down with pressure of my finger and releasing to see if the blood flow was blocked."
She went to a pharmacy, where they recommended arnica tablets and applying a cold compress to reduce the swelling.
Faye said: "I had to wear colour correcting makeup to cover the bruise as it was my birthday the following week."
"The arnica tablets helped the bruising go down; the bruising healed fully within 2 weeks."
