This is the 127 million dollar beach renourishment project underway in Pinellas County in Florida. St Pete Beach is part of Pinellas County. It is being undertaken to repair damages caused by the back-to-back hurricanes Helene and Milton. Without the beach being built back up, homes and high rises would be at risk of falling into the ocean in the near future. The project was paid for by the county because government funding was not available because of easement issues raised by some property owners. Basically, they want to be able to tell people to get off their beach and in order to be eligible for federal funding to rebuild the beaches their properties are on, they have to allow people to be on that part of their property.
