How to create the trending Ralph Lauren Christmas look on a budget - by expert
An interior decorator has shared her insider tips on how to create a Ralph Lauren–inspired Christmas aesthetic without the designer price tag.
The Ralph Lauren Christmas aesthetic has emerged as one of the first big holiday trends of the season, with discussions taking off on TikTok in the last week.
Meghan Fossey, 38, an interior decorator with 10 years of industry experience, revealed how to achieve the timeless look while saving up to $500.
According to Meghan, the key is to choose a cohesive color palette - think deep reds, rich greens, and classic navy - and stick to it throughout your decor.
To capture the signature Ralph Lauren feel, she suggests mixing patterns such as tartan and plaid with those luxurious hues.
You don't need to splurge to get the look. Meghan often reuses decorations or shops secondhand, a habit she estimates saves her around $500 each festive season.
Meghan, from Boston, Massachusetts, said: "We are shifting from his minimalist modern look."
"The Ralph Lauren design trend draws on timeless coziness nostalgia."
"People are shifting to comfort in an escapist sort of way."
"The Ralph Lauren take is so classic, you can use it over and over again - and you don't have to change much."
Meghan's top tip is to choose a color palette and stick with it.
When you think of Ralph Lauren, you think of reds, greens or classic navy. She recommends you pick a color and stick with it throughout your decor.
Meghan said: "My top tip is that people need to pick a color and stick to it."
"I have noticed that Ralph Lauren has a good guide, stick to deep reds, greens and navy."
"Once you have that, you can build on it."
Meghan's next tip is to add patterns to your decoration to build on that bold color.
Start by adding a tartan or plaid, then mix in greenery and add warm lights.
She said: "I would start by mixing in patterns to add to that primary color."
"A simple tartan cushion can really impact a room. It is a base layer, something you can reuse over and over again."
"I also mix in greenery that looks real to add to that unique equestrian look that Ralph Lauren is known for."
"Then add in your warm white lights, making sure that they are not LEDs."
Meghan said the best part is, you don't need a designer budget to achieve the designer look.
You can either buy decorations secondhand or reuse the same decorations from last year.
Meghan said: "I tend to buy things that I can reuse, for example, you don't have to buy a whole new tartan pillow."
"You can buy the pillow cover and swap it out when Christmas comes."
"Ralph Lauren is known for its equestrian look. You can just print off old equestrian photos and pop in a frame."
"Those lifestyle moments give it that lodge look that the brand is known for."
Meghan estimates that these simple steps have saved her around $500 a year.
She said: "I will reuse a lot of my decorations, or if I want a little refresh, I will get them secondhand."
"If you want to buy something and change your decor, it doesn't have to take much."
"It can just take a few pieces to change your look, you don't need to buy a ton of stuff and break the bank."
