Authorities deployed additional patrols and erected multiple layers of barricades around the Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center, the main venue for the high-profile summit. Leaders expected to attend include Chinese President Xi Jinping, U.S. President Donald Trump, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos Jr.
The city has seen visible security reinforcements, with police checkpoints and surveillance drones in place as preparations continue for one of the most significant diplomatic gatherings in the Asia-Pacific region.
Trump will meet Xi on Thursday on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea. The two are expected to discuss tariffs, trade, fentanyl, US agricultural products, and rare earths.
