Microsoft Sued in Australia Over Copilot Price Hike. Australia’s competition regulator has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft accusing the tech giant of misleading millions of customers into paying more for its Microsoft 365 subscriptions after bundling them with the AI tool Copilot. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says that since October 2024 about 2.7 million users were led to believe they had to switch to higher-priced Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plans that included Copilot. The annual cost of those plans jumped by up to 45%, but the regulator says Microsoft failed to make it clear that a cheaper "classic" plan — without Copilot — was still available. That option only appeared if users tried to cancel their subscription, which the ACCC says violates consumer law. Microsoft says it's reviewing the regulator's claims. The ACCC is seeking penalties, refunds, and injunctions — with potential fines reaching up to A$50 million per breach.
