Rain hits Tommy Robinson's anti-immigration protest in Southampton
Heavy rain hit Tommy Robinson's anti-immigration rally in Southampton.
Footage shows hundreds of anti-immigration protesters gathered outside Highfield House Hotel, a site used for housing migrants, as a downpour struck Hoglands Park.
The rally, led by Robinson, filled the grey afternoon with chants, waving flags, and tension on October 26.
Across the police line, counter-protesters waved Palestinian and rainbow banners and held anti-racism signs, shouting back at the crowd.
Earlier that day, counter-protesters allegedly hurled a bottle at Robinson supporters. A container allegedly filled with urine was thrown from a bridge, striking a girl during the rally.
Local media reported that the individual had been observing the right-wing demonstration from a footbridge above the scene when the object was thrown. He was quickly restrained on the ground, and police blocked access to the bridge to prevent further trouble.
Following the disruption, the right-wing demonstration continued towards Highfield House Hotel in Portswood, where asylum seekers are currently being housed.
Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is known for his nationalist and anti-migrant views. He described the same march last month, promoted by Elon Musk, as a protest for free speech, aimed at defending British heritage and culture.
The rallies took place amid ongoing debates in the UK over migrants crossing the English Channel in overcrowded boats and arriving without authorisation.
