Seawater turns blood red after chemical waste storage collapse
Seawater turned blood red after a chemical waste storage facility collapsed in the Philippines.
Footage shows resident Liza standing in the polluted water in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental, on October 27.
She also displayed a lifeless fish believed to have died from the contamination.
Reports said a wall of a waste storage building at a local ethanol plant gave way, releasing chemical waste that flowed into Bais Bay.
Locals stated the incident has disrupted the livelihoods of fishermen in Bais City and Manjuyod.
Officials from both cities met with ethanol plant representatives to review the spill and discuss potential responses to the environmental impact.
