West Midlands Police recreate moment woman is seriously injured by drug-driving van driver in Oldbury

West Midlands Police recreated the moment a woman was hit and seriously injured after a driver van driver turned right across a dual laned road in Oldbury, Sandwell on Wednesday morning.

A police officer stood with an umbrella in the road as officers from the Collision Investigation unit examined the view from each angle.

First aid and an evidence marker could be seen from the point of impact although the van appeared to be relatively undamaged.

The van driver has been arrested on suspicion of Drug Driving and the woman remains in hospital with serious injuries on Wednesday 29 October.

West Midlands Ambulance said 'A bystander flagged down two passing ambulances to the incident and a MERIT trauma team also responded to the incident.

'The pedestrian, a woman, was found to be in a critical condition upon assessment.

'The team worked together to administer trauma care to stabilise her condition before she was conveyed by ambulance on blue lights and sirens to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further emergency care.'

West Midlands Police closed a large area of the trunk road that connects Birmingham towards the M5 Motorway.

The force released this statement: ‘We’ve arrested a man following a serious collision in Oldbury this morning (29 October).

‘We were called after a vehicle struck a pedestrian near the junction of Wolverhampton Road and Albert Road at just after 6.30am.

‘A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

‘A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

‘A road closure remains in place while we carry out enquiries to establish exactly what happened. We thank everyone for their patience.

‘We’re keen to hear from anyone who may have information, and particularly dashcam footage.’
