This is the dramatic moment dozens of tents were torn down by a violent storm that battered an event in Indonesia.

Vendors clung to their canopies as powerful gusts and heavy rain swept across Manakarra Mamuju Beach in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi.

Footage shows the stage and rows of white event tents collapsing under the force of the wind and rain on October 29.

Food carts were destroyed, and stalls belonging to local small and medium enterprise traders were flipped over as sellers and organisers ran for safety.

Resident Rizky said: ‘Thank God, no one was injured, but the area was badly damaged. This wasn't the first time this has happened, whenever there's a big event, heavy rain and strong winds always follow.'

Cleanup continued into the afternoon, as the opening of an event at Manakarra Beach had been scheduled for later that evening.

The Indonesia Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said that the rainy season began around September and is expected to last until April next year.
