This is the dramatic moment a heroic guard saved a passenger from falling under a moving train in India.

CCTV footage shows the quick-thinking Railway Protection Force officer rushing to help the commuter who lost his footing while trying to board the train at Howrah Railway Station in Howrah, West Bengal.

The guard swiftly pulled the struggling man away from the gap, narrowly preventing him from being dragged beneath the carriage on October 29.

The passenger reportedly did not sustain any injuries from what happened.

India's frequent train accidents are largely attributed to ageing infrastructure, including outdated tracks and signalling systems.

The railway network's overcrowding, which often operates beyond its designed capacity, puts additional strain on equipment and safety measures. Human error, such as misreading signals or fatigue-related mistakes, also plays a significant role in many of these accidents.
