Miraculously, a pedestrian who was livestreaming to friends to show them the devastation spotted the youngster.

Tran said: 'When we heard someone shout that a child was drifting, we just acted on instinct. Saving him was the only thing on our minds.'

The youngster was in shock and having breathing difficulties. He was given first aid for around 15 minutes before his relatives arrived and took him to the hospital.

Local media reported that the boy had fallen into the river further upstream shortly before he was found. His family home was around two miles away from the point he was rescued.

It came Central Vietnam was hit by torrential rain, causing severe flooding. Authorities reported at least 14 deaths and more than 128,000 homes submerged across 90 communes.
