China: Thick fog blankets large parts of China, disrupting traffic

Thick fog has blanketed northern and eastern parts of China since Thursday, causing significant disruptions to road and highway traffic. The dense fog shrouded many areas of north China's Hebei Province on Friday morning, with visibility in some regions dropping below 200 meters. In the urban area of Guangping County, Handan City, visibility was reduced to less than 20 meters at 08:00 Friday, forcing cars to turn on their fog lights and hazard signals and slow down. As of Friday noon, many areas in the province remained engulfed in fog. Heavy fog also affected multiple regions in neighboring Henan Province on Friday morning, including its capital, Zhengzhou, where visibility was less than 200 meters. The Henan Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow fog warning at 16:00 Thursday. As of 11:00 Friday, the fog warning remained in effect for 31 counties and cities in Henan. Starting from late Thursday, Lianyungang City in east China's Jiangsu Province experienced heavy fog. Around 02:00 Friday, the city has closed three highway entrances. By around 11:00 Friday, the fog gradually dissipated, and the closed highways has resumed normal. Anhui Province in eastern China also experienced heavy fog, prompting the provincial meteorological observatory to issue a yellow fog warning. From Thursday night to Friday morning, the fog primarily affected areas north of the Yangtze River, with cities, including the provincial capital, Hefei, experiencing visibility of less than 500 meters, and some areas dropping below 200 meters. By 08:00 Friday, 27 cities and counties in the province had issued orange fog warnings. Due to the fog, 85 highway toll stations across Anhui were temporarily closed.
