The event, which aims to promote the Iranian capital as a floral hub and a tourist destination, features a wide range of chrysanthemum varieties and will be open to visitors until December 21st.

Chrysanthemums, native to East Asia and northeastern Europe, with a center of diversity in China, have a special cultural significance in Iran. The flower is associated with Ashi Vanghuhi, a Zoroastrian angel presiding over blessings and rewards.

The deep-rooted appreciation for flowers in Iranian culture finds one of its oldest and most beautiful examples in the stone carvings at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Persepolis. A relief over 2,500 years old depicts King Darius I holding a lotus flower with two buds, a symbol of royalty, in his right hand.
