2. SECURITY SERVICE OF UKRAINE (SBU) HEAD VASIL MALYUK SPEAKING TO JOURNALISTS (Ukrainian) KYIV, UKRAINE - OCT. 31: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied claims that Ukrainian forces deployed in the strategically important city of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, are currently under encirclement on Friday, Oct. 31.

Speaking to journalists in Kyiv, Zelenskyy affirmed, "Our forces maintain control over the situation near Pokrovsk," despite ongoing clashes with Russian soldiers entering the city.

The Ukrainian President reported that Russia had mobilized 170,000 troops toward Pokrovsk, referencing Russian President Vladimir Putin's stated desire to reach the city.

Zelenskyy also stated that he discussed increasing sanctions against Russia with security officials, arguing that 340 more tankers should be added to the current list of 610 sanctioned "shadow fleet" tankers.

Zelenskyy previously acknowledged on Thursday that the situation in Pokrovsk is currently the "most tense" and described the Kupiansk front as "difficult." Despite this, he stated that Ukrainian forces have recently gained "more control of the situation."

Separately, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasil Malyuk shared information regarding air attacks on targets inside Russia, reporting 160 strikes against oil refineries, depots, and terminals since the beginning of the year.

Malyuk also claimed that the SBU, in a previously undisclosed operation, destroyed the Oresnik ballistic missile system two years ago during the summer at the Kapustin Yar range in Russia’s Astrakhan region.
