LA PAZ, EL SALVADOR - OCTOBER 31: El Salvador sent a contingent of more than 300 rescuers and over 50 tons of humanitarian aid to Jamaica on Friday, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa across the Caribbean.

The rescue team boarded a plane at the Oscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport in La Paz, as part of the aid mission announced by Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele.

The hurricane has left a trail of destruction in several Caribbean nations, including Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba, resulting in dozens of fatalities, missing persons, and severe damage to infrastructure.

According to a CBS News report on Friday, Hurricane Melissa has killed at least 50 people across the region. The storm caused at least 30 fatalities in Haiti, 19 in Jamaica, and two in the Dominican Republic. Cuba also suffered significant impact from the powerful hurricane.

The US National Hurricane Center reported that Melissa, one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record, was moving over the open waters of the Atlantic on Friday after passing Bermuda. At the time, it carried maximum sustained winds of 90 mph (150 kph).

The hurricane triggered severe damage, widespread flooding, and forced evacuations in parts of the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and Cuba. Warnings were also issued for the Turks and Caicos Islands.
