South Africa: G20 women's empowerment meeting highlights gender equality

The G20 Empowerment of Women Working Group Ministerial Meeting concluded on Friday in Johannesburg, South Africa, with participants calling for joint efforts to advance gender equality and women's participation in economic, innovation and decision-making spheres. Held from Thursday to Friday, the meeting brought together representatives from G20 member states, guest countries, and international organizations. During the meeting, participants emphasized that women empowerment and gender equality is not just an embodiment of social justice, but also a key driving force for sustainable development. They also said that women are not only beneficiaries but also key drivers and creators in addressing global challenges. Huang Xiaowei, vice president and first secretary of the All-China Women's Federation and deputy director of the National Working Committee on Children and Women of the State Council, led the Chinese delegation to attend the meeting. In her remarks, Huang promoted the outcomes of the 20th Central Committee's Fourth Plenary Session of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping's keynote address at the Global Women's Summit. Huang also shared stories and data illustrating China's achievements in integrating women's development into the country's modernization drive, and advocated for the inclusion of the Global Women’s Summit in the meeting’s final outcome document. She called on all to implement the consensus reached at the Global Women's Summit, accelerate the comprehensive development of women, and build a shared future for humanity. Participants praised China's role in supporting global women's development, saying that the country's domestic progress sets a model for other nations.
