This is the moment an escaped pet monkey caused chaos inside a Spirit Halloween store in Texas.

Shoppers were shocked to see the monkey above their heads, prompting them to alert the management in Plano on October 27.

Bodycam footage shows the mischievous primate wearing a diaper swinging from the rafters.

Police officers, called by the store manager, arrived at the scene to help locate the animal's owner inside the building.

As the officers searched, the monkey's owner managed to reunite with it after it had calmed down.

The keeper was reportedly able to entice her pet with a cookie, regaining control without any injuries.

In another clip, the woman can be seen cradling the baby animal as they walk out of the shop.

Police said the pet had been spooked by one of the store's animatronic decorations, prompting it to escape from its owner's arms.

Officers advised her to keep the monkey on a leash in future and warned against allowing it to roam freely in public spaces.
