Nano, who had been receiving treatment for a chronic lung condition, was honored with an official ceremony at the Congress Palace attended by high-ranking officials, including Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, members of parliament, ministers, and thousands of citizens.

After a moment of silence, the coffin was carried to its final resting place as family members and citizens paid their last respects.

The Albanian government declared Nov. 2 a national day of mourning in memory of Nano, who served as Albania’s prime minister three times — in 1991, 1997–1998, and 2002–2005 — and led the Socialist Party between 1991 and 2005.
