Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK) has presented an important opportunity to advance bilateral relations between the two countries and expand people-to-people exchanges, according to experts from the ROK. Xi went to the ROK for the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju and a state visit to the ROK from Thursday to Saturday. During his talks with ROK President Lee Jae Myung, Xi said China and the ROK should pursue common development through mutual respect, and achieve win-win cooperation by seeking common ground while shelving differences, while proposing making full use of the dialogue channels and exchange mechanisms to pool strength for the development of bilateral relations. Park Han-jin, distinguished professor at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, said he felt confident about the cooperation between his country and China. "Our two countries, the ROK and China, can have exchanges and cooperation in fields such as the economy, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors. If our two nations can take the lead in doing this, it will be the foundation for future healthy and truly mutually beneficial development. I am very confident about this," said Park. As for the bilateral exchanges between the two countries, Jeong Jong-ho, dean of the Graduate School of International Studies at the Seoul National University, underlined the importance of exchanges between young people of the two countries. "It's a good thing that there are some exchanges between our two countries now. It can be simple exchanges, or it can be more structured exchanges, which ultimately involves exchanges with international students. I hope to see regular gatherings for young people, such as events held during holidays. There are some entrepreneurship centers right now, but I think it would be very helpful if we could create spaces where young people can come together to discuss various issues," said Jeong.
