A knife-wielding woman caused panic at a cinema in Tokyo, Japan.

Footage shows the suspect, dressed in a black jacket, standing in the lobby of Toho Cinemas Shinjuku in Kabukicho while raising her hand and holding a sharp object.

Witnesses said the customer appeared to be screaming and crying near the popcorn and drinks stand around 7 pm on November 2, as visitors stopped before entering the theatre.

People nearby kept their distance as the visibly distressed individual waved the knife in the air.

The filmer said: 'While screaming, she held the knife high up in the air and ranted hysterically. This was way too scary.'

Police arrived at the scene and took her into custody for questioning. No one was injured in the incident.
