Typhoon Kalmaegi caused severe flooding on a national highway in the Philippines earlier today.

Footage shows a passenger vehicle struggling through the floodwaters as a resident attempts to push it back from the middle of the road in Agusan del Norte on November 3.

Thousands of people in coastal provinces have already been evacuated as a precaution, ahead of the typhoon's expected landfall in areas previously struck by some of the country's deadliest storms, including Typhoon Haiyan, which claimed more than 6,300 lives.

State weather agency PAGASA reported that Kalmaegi, locally known as Tino, is moving towards Leyte Island, bringing sustained winds of 120 kph and gusts of up to 150 kph.

Leyte disaster official Roel Montesa said: 'Some local governments are resorting to forced evacuations, including Guiuan town, where the storm is likely to make landfall.'

Kalmaegi is predicted to make landfall in Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, or the Dinagat Islands on Monday evening or early Tuesday morning.
