South Africa: China reaffirms support for global women's affairs at G20 women's empowerment meeting
Vice President of the All-China Women's Federation Huang Xiaowei has said China is willing to provide more opportunities and guarantees for global women's affairs in order to help advance women's causes. Huang made the remarks at the G20 Empowerment of Women Working Group Ministerial Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa. The two day meeting, which opened last Thursday, gathered representatives from G20 member states, including guest countries and international organizations. The main aim of the meeting was to advance global commitments toward gender equality and women's economic empowerment. Representatives unanimously agreed to advance collective action to promote women's empowerment across the G20 platform. "Global women share a common destiny. China is willing to provide more opportunities and guarantees for global women's affairs through its own development, build a broader cooperation platform for women from all countries, continuously deepen exchanges and mutual learning, and jointly write a new chapter in global women's cooperation," said Huang. "We recognize our common concerns and are united in tackling gender-based violence against women, ensuring women's financial inclusion and building caring societies," said Marcia Lopes, Brazilian Minister of Women. The host country has put forth a proposal on key areas of focus, which drew praise from the Chinese representative. "China appreciates South Africa's proposal of three priority topics: 'care economy,' 'promoting inclusive finance,' and 'addressing gender-based violence,' providing a valuable platform for exchange and mutual learning among all parties. China also attaches great importance to women's empowerment in these areas, continuously strengthening institutional guarantees, policy support, and service supply," said Huang. The meeting ended with a declaration to be taken to the G20 leaders' summit due to take place later this month.
